Retake Policy
Candidates may retake the CIA® Challenge Exam after a 30-day waiting period. Candidates can attempt the exam up to eight total attempts within the three-year eligibility period.
Who Is Eligible for the CIA Challenge Exam?
Beginning in 2026, the CIA Challenge Exam includes three eligibility pathways.
Accounting Pathway
Available to active CPA or CA holders from recognized accounting bodies worldwide including ACCA®, CPA Canada®, ICAEW®, SOCPA™, ICAI™, CPA Australia®, and many others.
CISA Pathway
Available to professionals holding an active Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA®) designation.
Professional Pathway
New 2026 pilot pathway for professionals with 10+ years of documented experience in internal audit or related fields.
Important: Candidates applying through accounting pathways must provide a valid Letter of Good Standing from their professional body. Former members and students are not eligible.
