The Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) certification is a professional credential provided by the Institute of Internal Auditors. It is designed to equip individuals with fundamental knowledge and skills required for a successful career in internal auditing. This certification is suitable for recent graduates looking to enter the field, and those who are not yet ready to take the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) exam.
Starting from May 28, 2025, the current Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) exam will be replaced with Part 1 of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) exam. Additionally, some modifications will be made to the program, as outlined below.
Candidates have 2 years to pass the exam from the date of approval to join the program.

The exam is available around the year at PearsonVUE testing centers and online through the IIA’s Online Proctoring program.

To maintain your IAP designation, you must comply with the IIA’s Annual Certification Renewal Policy. Beginning in 2026, all individuals holding an active Internal Audit Practitioner designation must earn 20 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) annually.
